Memory Gems

Do you remember when Memory Gems were a fixed staple in our school diet? After each luncheon break, we would either line-up in neat silent lines outside our classroom door or if we were well-behaved within the last minute, we would be invited with the No Talking Inside the Classroom command, inside the well-swept classroom where we would stand in neater more silent rows and repeat with all the zest of elocution we could muster, the gems that we had lost sleep over the previous night, to our teacher's delight. Do you remember?

I do. I still love and find merit in this one. Say it with me:
Labour for learning before you grow old
for learning is better than silver and gold.
Silver and gold will vanish away
But a good education will never decay
