Memory Gems

Do you remember when Memory Gems were a fixed staple in our school diet? After each luncheon break, we would either line-up in neat silent lines outside our classroom door or if we were well-behaved within the last minute, we would be invited with the No Talking Inside the Classroom command, inside the well-swept classroom where we would stand in neater more silent rows and repeat with all the zest of elocution we could muster, the gems that we had lost sleep over the previous night, to our teacher's delight. Do you remember?

I do. I still love and find merit in this one. Say it with me:
Labour for learning before you grow old
for learning is better than silver and gold.
Silver and gold will vanish away
But a good education will never decay

Do You Remember When?

Ahhhhh. So many many many memories of what was, what is that that is a direct recycle of what was, and what should be preserved as it was then for as long as life lasts. If we sit and think back, oh how many more smiling faces there would be adorning our world.

Do you sit sometimes sit back, shut out the world and reminisce on what was and how we survived?: the technology then; the rites of passages; the games we played; the holidays we longed for; the pranks and ticks we had up our sleeves; and the oh so many unscripted experiences we had? Do you? Those were the days of innocence, the days when people were free to roam (within certain boundaries of course)and free to be free. I am sure you do, so the questions should therefore be, how often do you, and how badly do you miss those days?

Ahhhhh, Those were the days the youngsters of the cyber era call ancient and jurassic, and we call 'life'. 'Living'. I wonder, do they enjoy life as we did then? Are the bounties of life better appreciated now as they were then? Do they explore and invent objects for pleasure, excuses from penalty, make believe world and such likes as we revelled in then? I wonder....

What do you remember?
